Psycho-Social Club.
A working group on how speakers produce, perceive and process the social information carried by language, at the crossroads of psycholinguistics and sociolinguistics.
Programme
Sessions 2026–2027.
The group hosts the special sessions of the Gender and Language seminar, plus general sessions open to all the group's topics. Dates marked “proposed” are still to be confirmed.

Special sessions
The Gender and Language seminar.
SFL's Gender and Language seminar is now one of the group's strands. Its sessions, roughly every six weeks, address grammatical gender, gender-inclusive writing, gender representations and the social dimensions of gender in language.
Between special sessions, general sessions are open to every question the group works on: perception of variation, social personae, expectations about speakers, and how social information shapes comprehension and production.
About & contact
What language tells us about who is speaking.
When we hear or read an utterance, we also process information about the person producing it: their gender, age, origin or style. The group brings together experimental and variationist work on how this information is encoded, perceived and integrated into language processing.
Methods vary widely: production, perception, acceptability judgements, eye-tracking, surveys and corpora.
Present your work
Researchers at every career stage are welcome, based in Paris or passing through. Work in progress is the point, and PhD and master's students have priority. Write to one of the organisers.
